Disassemble his PS3 Super-Slim
This tutorial will show you how to disassemble your PS3 Super-Slim. This is not for a reason (obviously no installation of a flasher, possibly a Cobra ODE but no more), it can among other things allow you to do a little blow of dusting your console.
Required:
- Your PS3 Super-Slim.
- A small flat screw of size 1
- Screw cross screw size 2
- A torx screw temper T8
Warning: I want to clarify that this tutorial shows you how to disassemble your PS3 Slim but not how to put it back up, to do this you just have to do the steps in reverse. In any case I will not be responsible if your console goes wrong or does not start after reassembly. It is also important to know that if your console is under warranty, it will no longer be after disassembly.
Prerequisites
Before you start to disassemble the PS3, a small point on the hardware, as mentioned in the prerequisites you will need essentially a Phillips screwdriver size 2 and a temper T8 torx. A flat screwdriver size 1 is not necessary but can be practical.
Dismantling the shell
To start it will have to remove the cash on the right side of the console (drive side) to do it, you just have to push it on the right.
Then you have 3 torx temper screws to remove, you can enjoy to also remove the screw that hold the hard drive from the console (if you have one)
You can then remove the hard drive by pulling it outward.
Then it will be necessary to remove the front blade of the console which was held by the torx temper screw previously removed. To do this, simply slide the blade to the left.
You can then raise the front against the top to be able to remove it.
You will then have 4 cruciform screws to remove on the shell.
Once the 4 screws removed, open the cover of the console, you will see that there are two screws torx temper, they also retain the upper shell, then you can also remove them.
Now that all the screws on the top are removed, you can turn the console over. You have 4 screws to remove, the 4 are hidden by a small cash that you can remove to have access to the screws and thus remove them.
You have now removed all the screws from the top cover, you can see on the front 4 holes with inside clips that hold the upper shell. These are the last elements that hold the top shell to the rest of the console.
This is where a flat screwdriver size 1 can be useful. You can put it in the holes one by one to then lever by pulling the screwdriver against you, which will unclip the clips and then remove the shell.
Now that the top shell is disengaged from the rest, you can start by lifting the front of the shell up against the top to completely remove it from the rest of the console.
You now have access to different parts of the console such as the power box, the Blu-ray player or the fan.
Remove major components
Now we will have to start by removing the Blu-ray player. This one is not fixed by any screw, you just do not have tablecloths to remove. For starters you have two in front. The smallest can be removed simply by gently pulling on it. For the tablecloth 56 pins (the biggest), you must first pull the black clip of the connector against the top and then gently pull the tablecloth.
Then before you can remove the optical block you still have a smaller tablecloth on the back to remove, to do it you can just gently pull on it.
Now that the optics block is removed, you can attack the power supply. It is held by two screws at its ends. You can start by removing the one on the left.
Now on the other side you can also remove the screw there and the plug that connects the power supply to the motherboard.
Now the power supply removed, you can gently remove the tablecloth for the power button that comes to put on the motherboard. Here again you only have to gently pull on the tablecloth to disconnect.
Then you can also unscrew the two wireless antennas at the front of the console in front of the fan. These are simply held by a Phillips screw each.
It will then be necessary to remove the rest of the console to the lower hull. You have 6 screws holding it, 4 at the back of the console and 2 others at the front. You can start by removing the 4 at the back.
Then the first screw at the front is at the location of the optical block, it is in the corner.
And the last screw is on the other side, also in the corner of the console next to the fan.
You can then remove the motherboard and its frame from the console shell. To do it you can take the motherboard by the fan and then shoot against the top, all will come from itself without too much resistance.
Now that the motherboard is no longer in the shell, you can remove the 2 rows of antennas that are connected to the motherboard using the flat screwdriver to pry it, pay attention all the same to go gently enough.
Hint: If you are afraid of not remembering which line is going to go, you can draw a black line on the metal frame of the console on the side of the black line with the indelible pen.
You can also disconnect the fan from the motherboard by gently pulling the plug.
Then you can turn everything around, you have a thin plate that protects the motherboard. This one is held by 4 screws on the side and by the plate which holds the CPU plated with the ventilator.
Once the sheet is removed, nothing else holds the motherboard to the rest, then you can start to lift slightly the front of the motherboard (side of USB) to remove it.
Warning: If this is the first time that the console is removed, it is possible that with the thermal paste the motherboard remains stuck to the fan. Do not always insist on the same place, try different places on the motherboard little by little to take off, after a while it will come.
Here you have now full access to the motherboard if for example you want to change the thermal paste.
If you want to go further to clean the fan propeller, you can remove the 3 black screws holding the metal casing to the fan.
Here is this tutorial is over, as the other two (on FAT and Slim) I will not show how to go back up the console, to do it you simply have to follow the tutorial in reverse.
