Dismantling the PS3 SLIM

This tutorial will show you how to disassemble your PS3 Slim. This may be for the installation of a flash, a repair or even interviews. However here I am going to show you the disassembly of the console, then it is you who choose what to do once it disassembled.

Required:
Your PS3 Slim.
A small flat screw driver of size 1
A torx screw driver temper T8
Screw driver size 2 and 3

Note: This tutorial was made on a PS3 Slim 2504B with a motherboard JSD-001.

Warning: I want to clarify that this tutorial shows you how to disassemble your PS3 Slim but not how to put it back up, to do this you just have to do the steps in reverse. In any case I will not be responsible if your console goes wrong or does not start after reassembly.

Materials Needed

Before you start disassembling the PS3, let's take a small picture of the hardware you'll need to easily unmount it

Dismantling the Shell

To start it will have to remove all the screws that hold the upper shell of the console. Then start by returning it, you will have in all 7 small caches to remove + that of the screw which hold the hard disk.

Then there are still Torx Temper screws at the front that hold the shell.

Note: On Slims 2004 and 2104, you will only have 3 of these screws, but on Slims 2504 and + there are 4 as in the picture below.

Once all the screws are removed, you can flip the console over and remove the top shell by first lifting the back against the top, then you will have access to the rest of the console.

After removing it, you will have a more detailed view of the console. In the lower left we have the fan and the air channel, on the right is the blue-ray player and on the top there is the power box, that's what we will remove first.

Remove the major components

So as I said, you will start by removing the power box, to do it, you have a screw of each ends of the case (in width) as well as two taken next to the screws, unplug them too. Then you can remove the case.

Note: This case is itself connected to the motherboard live with two pins (from below) so it's normal that you have to force a little can to remove it, there are only two screws that I have mentioned who actually hold it up, after you just have to pull it with +/- force to disconnect it from the mother-carter.

The next step is to remove the Blue-ray drive, but before disconnecting the water and the plug, it will first remove the PCB buttons "Power" and "Eject". To do this, simply turn the flat screw size 1 and gently leverage the back against the top, it is simply clipped to the rest of the console. no screws hold him in place.

That's it, now you can turn your PS3 to first remove the slick from the player as well as the plug that is connected to the motherboard and to finish the small screw that fixes the player.

Note: The also following the model that Slim you have this can change. On Slims 2004 and 2104 you will simply have a step, the screw and the power jack of the player to remove. For the Slim 2504 and +, they have the motherboard integrated in the motherboard, so you will have 3 small thumbs to remove and a screw behind the player and another nape under the reader.

Since my model is a 2504B, there is still the step 56 pins to remove below the reader. If you have the same, raise the reader slightly and then using the flat screwdriver # 1, raise slightly each end of the black clip against the top to be able to remove the nape delicately.

Once you have removed it, you will be able to disconnect the ribbon that connects the PCB buttons "Power" and "Eject" to the motherboard. Remove it with delicacy, these tablecloths remain quite sensitive to the folds. You have no clip to remove, just to take the step of the connectors.

Now, the turn of the transmitter / receiver wifi, these are the two small parts attached to the front of the console. To begin remove these two parts of the plastic shell of the PS3, they are each held by only 1 screw.

Once you have removed them, you can unclip the queues that are connected to the motherboard. Be careful again not to be too abrupt or you will damage the connectors.

If you are afraid to forget which line goes to which connector, do like me and make a black line on the side or connect the black line.

Before going any further, remove the hard drive from its location. Since you have already removed the screw that held it (the screw with the blue head that also hold the shell of the PS3), you can simply pull it against the outside.

Now you have to unplug the fan from the motherboard

Warning: I make you aware that the catch of the fan is very fragile, do not remove it by pulling directly on the 3 son under penalty of removing them from the socket. You must remove the plug by pulling directly on it, while being careful not to unsolder the socket on the motherboard because it is also fragile and does not withstand too much strength.

Now you will be able to start removing the screws that hold the motherboard to the hull of the PS3. There are in all 5:

Now you will be able to remove the motherboard from the hull. To do this, just lift the front of it, then pull against it to get out of the hull. You can pull it by the fan, it will come out easily from its location.

Now it will first have to return, you have a thin shield for the motherboard and two pads that hold together the CPU and RSX. There are 9 screws in all to remove, follow the picture below for all found.

Now it is going to take off the CPU / RSX fan to be able to remove the motherboard from its location.

Note: The also if it is the first time you dismount your console you will probably force a little bit. The CPU (processor) and the RSX (chipset graphics) may be stuck with the cooling plates for heat dissipation because of the thermal paste. Be careful not to force the same place on the motherboard, put a little force on all sides of the motherboard.

Here you have now finished disassembling your PS3 Slim, you have full access to the motherboard for example change thermal paste or install a flasher.

This tutorial ends here, as said above I do not show how to go back, you have to follow this tutorial upside down. Be careful not to lose any screws and put them next to what they fixes.
